2nd COST Action CA15226 – CLIMO Training School
Multiscale monitoring tools for a smart management of mountain forests
(San Michele all’Adige, Trento, Italy, 1-3 July, 2019)
The main purpose of the training school is to provide trainees with an overview of multiscale monitoring frameworks, highlighting the linkages between forest adaptation and mitigation strategy from tree to landscape. The course will cover selecting key metrics, tree-sampling protocols, lab analysis techniques, introduction to new monitoring tools and installation tutorials, remote sensing scaling, data harmonization and scaling exercise. The training school will also include some general aspects of cybernetic web of experimental structures and Big Data management. The training school will allow engaging participants to develop skills in developing and implementing cyber infrastructure to collect and wirelessly transmit to the Internet a fundamental set of forest and environmental measurements from the sites forming the ESFONET network for Climate Smart Forestry monitoring.

To be eligible to apply you should demonstrate the following in your application:
a) You are a PhD Student or an Early Career Investigator [ECI, intended as An individual who is within a time span of up to 8 years from the date they obtained their PhD/doctorate (full-time equivalent) ], in a field relevant to CLIMO Cost Action.
b) Provide a short CV and a motivation letter for your participation to the Training School.
c) You must be engaged in an official research programme as a PhD Student or postdoctoral fellow or are employed by, or affiliated to, an institution, organisation or legal entity which has within its remit a clear association with performing research.

Up to 15 applicants will be accepted for participation. Participants will be granted according to Management Committee decision following COST rules. Each trainee must register for an e-COST profile at https://e-services.cost.eu – each trainee must add their bank details to their e-COST profile. A flat contribution to travel expenses and subsistence of 460 € will be allowed to the selected candidates.
Accommodation in the campus and meals at the canteen will be available at special prices for the trainees. ( B&B accommodation in double rooms at 27 € per night; meals at the canteen at 9 € each)
